Styling Don't Need Permission: DNP Intro

Hey Fashionistas!

We’re waiting to get on location for the second and third parts of filming Danseuse so we can bring you more style insights on the goddess looks we’re putting together to really round out the whole Danseuse scene. In the meantime, we got to shoot the intro scene for dancehall remix of the original soca song by María del Mar, Don’t Need Permission (the remix is affectionally called DNP for short and by María del Mar and the RbD crew [officially the remix is going to be titled DNP (The Mashup). DNP is a dancehall banger that asks for nothing but spice—we throw in a little nice just for good measure! It’s loud, it’s colorful, it’s sassy, it’s direct and it hits your soul in all the right places. We made sure our fashion and beauty styling for the visuals followed suit. We had an array of colorful heels to choose from, ultimately we went with yellow. These are paired under a soft-cotton version of that wardrobe essential little black cocktail dress. We really like this one because it has a dress shirt feel to it with the scoop neck that is also a button up. The buttons stayed buttoned up during the video though! Continuing with our body art theme for the Sounds of María album visuals and tying in the higher vibration lyrics from the song, namely, “my frequency’s so high, it’s heavenly, I’m on that 7D…I was born with my greatness in me…” we added planetary body stickers, sea compass temporary tattoos and an astral temporary tattoo to the legs which stretch so elegantly long between the dress and the high heels. The legs in particular are decorated in this scene because she is a ballerina as well as a singer, her whole body shows it with ethereal vibrations. Also, from our very first visual collab, which was Outta Mind in Atlanta, EGFH has been opting for a steady flow of low back or long leg options. Basically, wardrobe showing lots of back and lots of legs. This style for DNP shows lots of legs and the body art accentuates that. Lastly, there is a whole lipstick on the mirror vibe when she bodly writes “Don’t Need Permission” using the same lipstick she just painted her lips with and then saunters off to end the intro. She is the compass for her own life and need no permission to be authentically herself, hence the compass body art.

The hair was a simple brushed out roller set that shows off sun-kissed golden ombre locks and the make-up was minimal foundation moisturizer set with a glowy powder, freshly tweezed and gelled eyebrows and some popping mascara, leaving all room to focus heavily on her lips as she applies a purple wine lipstick in the video itself. The accent color nails were actually something María del Mar has loved to do on her own. Flip flop the colors on each hand. Red and black with the left ring finger nail being the accent color of red and vice versa on the right hand. Confused? Look closely at her nails below!

As with some of the other filmed visuals, we’ll be hitting the road to go to a different location for the rest of the filming of DNP. We still have some style 411 to bring you about Clown Shit which was filmed a little while ago in Quito and we have a style teaser up on our socials for DNP.
