Styling Clown Sh*t On The Amazon's Edge

Hey Fashionistas,

We said we would see again here on the blog a few weekends ago. Those weekends came and went while we made some massive changes to our upcoming plans for styling the rest of the Sounds of María album visuals. Casa Film Productions shared a teaser reel for another one of the songs on the album at the beginning of the month, “Clown Sh*t” and we reposted a version of it on our YouTube shorts, TikTok and Instagram—it’s high time we shared some styling deets on styling those visuals while we finish replanning the rest of the visuals—right?! Right! Styling the music visuals for “Clown Sh*t”… Since the visuals start on the side of a mountain at the edge of the Amazon in Quito, Ecuador, the style needed to be edgy and rugged to match the attitude of the song and the rustic house and surroundings of this first half of the visuals. The song title gives the song away…it’s an R&B song with a hip hop undertone that has so much attitude to it while playfully poking at the idea of people we would all consider to be ‘clowns’. Here’s the breakdown of the look from top to bottom.

The hair: fresh shoulder length trim on a sleek blow out so the hair is slightly feathered and moves easily through the movements. It’s a little muted against the entire look and the back drop because this hairstyle was meant to be a finishing touch here, rather than the focus. There is one scene at the very beginning where at the last minute the hair was pulled up into a tight pony tail so it could sway side to side in the wooden wardrobe “jack in the box” pop-out scene but everywhere else, it’s down and framing the face.

The makeup: Dark eye liner, nude eye shadow, mascara and grey colored contacts to brings focus to the intense eye contact made with the camera through the scenes. The rest of the face is matted including the nude lipstick used on the lips. It gives almost an arid desert look even though the setting is a tropical rainforest area, but we were up on a mountainside, hence the idea for a matted look.

The top: a black and white stripped bra top that has a cut-out racer-back and a thick mesh black edge at the bottom. The top falls right in line with our open backstyle motif for the entire album.

The pants: Tan rip stop trash pants with a high waist cotton band for ease of movement. There are scenes requiring popping out of a wooden wardrobe, jumping through a window, dancing on a table, crawling along a rooftop and dancing along a plateau. The legs needs to be covered and free to move. The pants gave the look a hiker feel but in an edgy way.

The shoes: Classic Chuck Taylor Converse high-top sneakers with an American eagle and flag design. Not too colorful but they stand out enough to bring the focus from the bare midriff area to the feet when there’s movement in the legs.

Do you love it? We do too! Take a look at the whole thing below in the “Clown Sh*t” teaser videos on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube!
