Sample Sale Shopping
How do you shop for an outfit to wear to your Fashion Week events while keeping—or even discovering—your own unique fashion sense you would like to put on display for the big event? How do you go about this, especially if you are someone who wants to veer away from the already advertised collections on the racks? My answer is always: find a sample sale. Nowadays, they even have some you can show from online. I'll leave those links at the end of the post.
During New York Fashion Week Spring Summer 2018 Collection, Alice and I were really looking forward to checking out the Rent the Runway Sample Sale. This is not to say we ignore the popular stores. We definitely went through some, like Aritzia and Desigual, and found some things we couldn't resist buying. But, we had the most fun and felt the most inspired at the sample sale.

The best way to narrow down an outfit while you're shopping is to explore a different range of style that you think cater to you event. Some examples are: edgy, chic, on-trend, classic, vintage, bohemian, vanguard, clean-cut, floral, lacey, sequenced, color-block, fur, leather, textured, layered. You can always pop these into google images to get an idea what they look like and go from there. Once you decide one or two styles to focus on, you can narrow in on your shopping experience. Look for items that fit in that style. I think it's also important you pick items can envision yourself wearing at least twice.
